There are 61 MCF residing at Navkshitij. There are nine Trustees, and 46 staff members to support them.

Being a residential institute, there are a lot of opportunities for volunteers. We welcome and support our volunteers in any of the activities listed below:

Information for Volunteers

Navkshitij, launched in 2003, is an organization committed to the rehabilitation of Mentally Challenged Adults (MCF).  The premises at Marunji includes a residential facility with separate hostel units for men and women, and six workshop units.

There are 46 MCF residing at Navkshitij. There are nine Trustees, and 27 staff members to support them. Our Founder President is present at Navkshitij from 11.30 to 6 p.m. One Trustee resides at Navkshitij.


Navkshitij is located off Hinjewadi, in Pune, Maharashtra, India. (Pune is about 175 kilometres from Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra and the commercial capital of India.)

Marunji is at a distance of 30 kilometres from Pune airport and 25 kilometers from Pune railway station.

Second unit of Navkshitij is located in Aswali Village of KhandalaTahsil of SataraDist, Maharashtra, India. Aswali unit is at distance of 80 KM from Marunji Unit.

Our Goal

  • To give a happy, dignified and enjoyable life to mentally challenged friends through achievement-oriented and fun-filled activities at Navkshitij, a home where the MCF will proud and happy to belong.

  • To set up a replicable model of an ideal rehabilitation home for mentally challenged adults, which is MCF-friendly, eco-friendly, and not demanding on the budget.

Our Premise

  • MCF have the right to a happy, dignified, fulfilling life.

  • MCF need a peer group as much as any normal person does.  In peer group, they do not feel challenged.

  • MCF can be rehabilitated back to society but not back to home.  



  1. Report for briefing sessions.

  2. Be punctual.

  3. Dress decently. The dress code is semi-formal. (Salwars, jeans, sarees, track pants for women. Pant and shirt for men.) Volunteers cannot wear short pants or tight fitting clothes.

  4. Not use strong perfumes.

  5. Not laugh at or tease the MCF.

  6. Not laugh at or tease the staff members.

  7. Bring lunch, if coming to Marunji on a daily basis. (Not applicable to resident volunteers.)

  8. Arrange for own transport.

  9. No drinking, smoking, and chewing tobacco inside the premises and at any time outside, when working with Navkshitij.

  10. Not give eatables or gifts directly to the special friends or staff members. If you wish to give them something, obtain permission from the manager and hand over the same at the office.

  11. Avoid coming to Navkshitij if unwell (with infectious conditions).

  12. Not carry any organization material home.

  13. Obtain permission from Navkshitij authorities before taking any photographs or video shoots of the premises, the staff or the special friends.

  14. Maintain the workbook/tracker with details of work done at every visit. Submit the follow–up record to the Manager.

  15. Resident volunteers get Saturdays and Sundays off. If there is an event, trek or any programme, the volunteer it is mandatory for the volunteer to be present at the event/trek/programme.

  • Navkshitij premises is located in the interior, at a distance of 3.5 km from the main road.

  • TA, DA and vehicle for pick-up and drop will not be provided.

  • Volunteers from outside Pune/India can stay in the city, but they have to make their own arrangements for boarding and lodging. There will be no vehicle provided for pick up and drop.

  • Internet connectivity is erratic.

  • The nearest theatre is located 15 km away.

  • The nearest fast food joint (McDonalds) is located 3.5 km away.
